New Venue is The Cobden, 28-30 Camden High St

Posted in Uncategorized on August 30, 2012 by bluelionsession

Hello everyone, we have decided after 3 happy years at the Blue Lion that we would like a quieter pub to play tunes in.

So… from September we will continue with sessions every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Cobden pub, 28-30 Camden High St, which is very near Mornington Crescent tube on the northern line (Charing Cross branch). As before, we’ll gather from around 7 and play tunes from 8. I am told the pub does good Thai food for those who like to dine in. So Pat, Chris, Lois and I hope to see you there on Sept 5th & 19th, and each 1st and 3rd Weds. Please feel free to spread the word.

In other important news, Pat & Phil would like to invite you along to the Harrison pub, Harrison St, Kings Cross on Thurs 6th Sept to join a jam session from 7pm in the main bar and open mic and shows from Grinch Mountain and the Glorification from 8.30 downstairs. Finally, we wanted to let you know about a fantastic gig coming up on Friday 30th November at the Green Note in Camden. The Stuart Brothers, identical twins from rural North Carolina, are among the very best old-time musicians in the world and will be playing only a few gigs in the UK when they come over to run a weekend of banjo and fiddle courses. Tickets are on sale now and are limited in number so please don’t delay!

IMPORTANT NEWS – WE’RE TAKING A BREAK!

Posted in Uncategorized on August 16, 2012 by bluelionsession

Dear all, please note that we are taking a break from the Blue Lion as of August 2012 – please check back here for more information on sessions, which will appear soon.

We have really enjoyed being at the Bluey, but so too have all those noisy drinkers, so we’re thinking about finding a quieter home in the future.

Back soon!
Helen

Dear Friends,
I am delighted to announce that due to popular demand, the Blue Lion session will be twice a month again from November. It will take place on the first and third Wednesday of each month.

The first Weds of the month will be hosted by Helen and Pat, as usual. The third Weds will be hosted by Lois and Angie (banjo and fiddle) of London all-gal bluegrass band, the Jolenes, with Chris Hall, banjo frailer extraordinaire and occasional guitar picker. As usual, it’ll be a mixture of bluegrass and old-time, and Lois and Angie would like to encourage pickers of all persuasions to come on down! Singers are particularly welcome too.

The dates for November are 2nd and 16th.
